IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Another month as well as another week has gone by... where does the time go?

We spent most of this week recuperating from our ailments. Dave has still got a scratchy voice from laryngitis but it is getting better day-by-day. Way too slow for him...but better. His coughing has subsided and he is able to get a good night's sleep. Which means I can get a good night's sleep! I am over my inner ear infection but am still taking the antibiotics until they run out. There is fluid on the inside of my knee which still is giving me pain. I will go to the doctor this afternoon to see what can be done about that. It feels okay to walk but when I bend it, I can feel the pressure and it starts to ache.
Okay, that's enough of the medical report on us for this week. God, it's tough getting old!!

Jake

Jake

Great news!! We are going to be grandparents again! Lara and Greg came down last Sunday and had a subtle way of telling us with Jadyn wearing a tee shirt which read "Jadyn" on the front and "I'm the big sister" on the back. Stan and Terrie were down visiting for the weekend, and we all saw the tee shirt at the same time. You could hear a pin drop as it dawned on us what was going on! Then everyone started talking at once! They've been trying to tell us for over a week, but because we were sick, we kept postponing trips in to their place. That was driving them crazy, so they finally decided to come see us so they could let us know. Leslie had known for a week and was having a terrible time keeping the secret! Lara is due in May and doesn't want to know whether it's a boy or a girl until it arrives. On the other hand, Greg is dying to know! We'll see who wins this battle.

Jake

Jadyn didn't wear her "big sister" shirt all the time. She changed into a cute dress and climbed up on my bench. Too cute for grandad! He had to get the camera out!

Eland

Eland

We had quite a sight coming into the Nehalem Bay the other day. At first, when I saw this huge ship coming around the bend, I thought, gee, a cruise ship!! But later on I found out that it was a big dredge that docks in Nehalem. What a sight!! It was so huge that they have to calculate coming in at a high tide and then still be able to get under the bridge up by Nehalem. Sometimes they have to take the mast down in order to do it. The other fishing boats looked like toys next to it.

Elk

Catchin' Fish

Speaking of sightings, the herd of Elk were back. They were on our side of the island and as close as I have ever seen them and such fun to watch. It is getting close to hunting season and I think they know where to "hang out" so they are out of danger. I hope no one starts shooting at them anyway. The fishermen are still around too, although other than this one, I haven't seen much caught.

Window Paint

Office

We are making progress on the project downstairs. Dave and Ray (the contractor) got all the sheetrock up and are busy taping and plastering this week. Then we get to texture the walls and ceiling (that's always fun and we'll have a lot of dust to deal with). We have ordered the tile to be installed in front of the outside door and then it will be time for me to start painting. I put a coat on the outside frame around the windows this week. Finding the paint to match the previous paint has been a real challenge too. We have a hundred cans of paint that came with the house. You'd think one of them would match my project!

Gutters

We've had nice weather, so I decided we needed to clean the gutters before winter sets in. One thing we need at the Oregon coast is a good rain gutter system! That was my project on Wednesday. Between Dave's back and my knee, it took most of the afternoon!

GIVE ME A BREAK!

I guess I just haven't "slowed" down to the pace of a small town yet, but give me a break. Since we had been sick and had some prescriptions that needed to be filled, I took them up to the local pharmacy. Mind you, this place is kind of a hangout for all the locals. Anyway, that is how it appears when you go in. They seem to have plenty of help (mostly family) and they are sitting around behind the counter chatting to each other and to anyone else that happens to come in. Anyway, I dropped the prescription off and asked, "How long it would take to fill?" "Just a few minutes" was the reply. "Okay, I'll go over to the post office and pick up my mail and return for the prescription." So, I come back and ask about the status. "It will be just a couple more minutes, why don't you look around the store?" Okay. So after reading most of the current magazines and all of the cards, which took me about half an hour, I came back up to the counter. It wasn't a pretty picture. I'm watching them as they have their heads together and are studying all the jars of medications that they have on all the shelves in the back. My patience is running REAL thin by now and FINALLY, the clerk comes to me and says: "We don't seem to have this medication in stock and will have to special order it. Can you come back tomorrow?" Now, I said to myself, "Why didn't you tell me this in the first place??" But I was a good girl and didn't say anything to them. It's just that I'm used to the big-city pharmacy where they can push a computer button and tell you not only if they have it in stock, but also how much they have and how long it will take to get it to you. So, I just asked them to call me when it came in and I left. The next day I waited most of the day for them to call. Finally around 4:30, I called them and asked about the status. "Oh yes, we have it here". So I go up to the pharmacy and guess what? It isn't ready yet! They hadn't had time to put the label on the medication. What is wrong with this picture, folks???? Is it me?? You know, a person could die if they don't get started on their medications!! I know, I know, I have to slow myself down to this coastal small town pace. It would probably better for me anyway, but getting there may just kill me!
